U15/16 Bury Rangers 0 - 4 Luton Town
On Sunday 23rd August, Luton Town FC (Squad 1/2 ) took on a strong Bury Town Rangers U16 team at Ram Meadow, the stadium used by Bury Town Rangers first team.
Bury have a very strong academy setup with many of their players having experience with Cambridge, Ipswich, Norwich or Colchester, so it was always going to be a tough game.
Both team started at a very fast frantic speed, which led to a lack of quality passing or composure for the first 10 minutes.
Once the players became a little more comfortable with the surroundings and the players around them the quality of play increased. The pitch was in immaculate condition and the Luton team started to use this to their advantage by passing the ball with much more quality and created good attacking opportunities, whilst always under pressure from the counter attack of Bury.
Luton took the lead in the second period following some good one and two touch build up play and a finish from close range from Tom Hunt. Luton continued to dominate the second period by passing the ball simply and keeping a good shape.
The third period was Lutons worst period of the day, the quality and weight of pass was below standard and there was a lack of movement and energy, the hot summers day weather clearly taking its toll.
However, the final period saw a much brighter, stronger Luton team take control of the game and show much more quality in possession. Luton then added goals from Immanuel Palmer, Ashley Boness and a great strike from Nathan Mallett from the edge of the box, to make it 4:0.
Overall a good pre season workout, it was clear to see most of the boys have kept themselves in good shape and there were some very positive performances most notably from Jake ONeill, Immanuel Palmer and Tom Hunt.
Hafed Aldroubi, Sam Wyer, Tom Grennan, Michael Welsh, Rory Cochrane, Sam Ling, Jordan Borrie, Jake ONeill, Tom Hunt, Nathan Mallett, Immanuel Palmer, Luke Hall, Jakk Pursey, Liam Brophy, Ash Boness. Coach: Stuart English
